Trek’in Gazelles adventure in Morocco

Tina Darcel:

After almost one year of preparation, on November 9th, it was finally time for our adventure, the Trek'In Gazelles, in Morocco!

Before telling you about our exceptional experience, a few words about the Trek.

The Trek'in Gazelles is based on the Rallye Aïcha des Gazelles concept. It's a 100 % feminine orienteering race. No GPS, just a map, a compass, a ruler and common sense. The winning team will be the one that covers the fewest kilometers and locates the most controls. It's an event that respects the environment and is certified as having responsible and supportive values. Teams made up of three are out for a 4-day trek of about 20 kilometers every day. It’s taking place in the heart of the Moroccan desert where we headed last November.

Marocco here we come!

After spending the first night in Errachida, we made our way to our campsite in the Merzouga desert early Sunday morning. Once at the camp site, time to leave our phones and everything that comes with it an focus on our adventure.

Each day started at 5:30 AM with breakfast and gathering at the start. Every night we talked through our strategy for the next day.

The four days were all fantastic in different ways. The first day we got to know the area, the second day was a little bit less challenging and the third day brought a sandstorm, an unforgettable experience! The final stage featured the majestic terrain of the sand dunes. When we reached the finish line, the feeling was amazing, and a medal was hung around our necks. After the trek, we headed back to Errachida for a gala dinner with awards and celebration.

This Trek was so much more than just the Trek. It was an adventure shared between three friends, an unforgettable experience with more than a year of preparation and training. We are more than grateful for all the support we got from our Patron the female basketball team “LDLC ASVEL Féminin Basketball Club”, together with its President Tony Parker and Deputy President Marie Sophie Obama and all our partners. GOOD FUTURE of course but also PRO BTP, Dessange, Cébé, Ozalée Conseil, Österman Expertise, GFF, Paul Bocuse, TD NORDIC et Studio Egéries.

Together we have raised an important amount of money for the organizations Rev'Elles and Vivo. The cheques will be remitted at the occasion of a basketball game in Lyon on February 1st.

And some facts about this year's edition:

Number of teams: 147

Liters of trash collected: 7 700

Money raised for the French organization Secours Populaire through checkpoints: 19 645 euros
